About Hugh Vanderspek
Hugh Vanderspek currently directs operations at BAE Systems’ Southeast Shipyards. As vice president and general manager, he oversees shipbuilding production and facilities maintenance in Jacksonville, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama. Hugh Vanderspek’s current position builds on past responsibilities as general manager of the firm’s San Francisco ship repair yard. He spearheaded a number of upgrade projects that involved coordination of funding from a variety of agencies, including the Army Corps of Engineers and the Port of San Francisco.
Mr. Vanderspek completed his bachelor’s degree at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo and joined Santa Fe International in the mid-1980s as a marine engineer. As project manager with San Diego-based Southwest Marine for much of the 1990s, he directed production focused on commercial and US Navy ships. Responsible for operational performance, Mr. Vanderspek also oversaw quality and safety programs.
